The Nigerian Army has rescued 260 women and children who were trapped in an Adamawa town after fleeing Boko Haram attacks in their own community.

According to the military, the rescued persons were stuck on the outskirts of Chalawa village in the state after escaping attacks in Madagali village, also in Adamawa.

Details of the rescue were contained in a statement released by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters on Sunday, May 3, 2015.
It reads in part:
“Troops on patrol yesterday located 260 women and children in the outskirts of Chalawa village in Adamawa state where they had been held up while trying to escape from terrorists.”
“They have now been conveyed back to their various communities in Madagali after undergoing the normal security profiling. Some of them disclosed that they had to abandon their homes to escape from the terrorists when Madagali came under attack, while others were actually abducted.”
“The terrorists were however sacked from the Madagali recently. A number of terrorists died in an encounter with troops who caught up with them as they fled prior to the recovery of the women and children.”
Meanwhile, the army, also on Sunday, captured a man suspected of being a supplier of food and fuel to Boko Haram in Daban Shata in the suburbs of Baga, Borno State.
