Army hands over 275 freed captives to NEMA

Commander of the Brigade, Aba Popoola, said that the victims were being handed over to NEMA on behalf of the Nigerian Army for “care and welfare”.

The Nigerian Army has handed over 275 women and children, who were recently freed from Boko Haram, to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for proper care.

The victims; 69 women, 14 girls, 26 male children aged between 6 and12 years, 49 male children aged 5 years, 48 female children aged 0 to 5 years and 69 female aged 6 to 12years; were transferred into NEMA’s custody on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Commander of the Brigade, Aba Popoola, said that the victims were being handed over to NEMA on behalf of the Nigerian Army for “care and welfare”.

“The rescued women and children who look traumatized were immediately taken to Malkohi IDPs camp in Yola for profiling and provided with food, mattresses, blanket, mosquitoes nets, soap and detergents,” NEMA spokesperson, Sani Datti said in a statement.

The Nigerian Army, over the past week, has rescued about 700 women and children from Boko Haram stronghold, Sambisa Forest.
