NEMA deploys humanitarian team to assist victims

A total of seven 30-ton trucks have been dispatched to the state to assist victims of the flood.

A total of seven 30-ton trucks have been dispatched to the state and are due to arrive Makurdi on Friday, September 1, 2017.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the agency's Head of Media and Public Relations, Sani Datti, hours after President Muhammadu Buhari directed the agency to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to the ravaged state.

The statement noted that a reinforcement of another contingent of humanitarian officers headed by Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Paul Ohemu, has also been dispatched to the state by the Director General of NEMA, Engr. Mustapha Maihaja.

This is in addition to the officers of the North Central Zonal Office in Jos deployed to cover various locations and assess the situation for additional support.

According to the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), over 110,000 people in 24 communities, including Makurdi, were displaced by flood that was caused by torrential rainfall.
