Automaker loses number one global sales spot to Volkswagen

Despite it's diesel emission scandal, Volkswagen has succeeded in removing Toyota from it's spot.

Toyota

Over the years, Toyota has been known as the World’s largest car manufacturer.

The carmaker held this title for four years.

Unfortunately, things have changed for the auto company.

While Toyota's deliveries dropped from 2.3% to 2.46 million vehicles between January and March, Volkswagen's deliveries increased from 0.8% to 2.5 million vehicles.

Toyota's fall could also be attributed to production delays in Japan, caused by devastating earthquakes.

40% of it's global vehicles are manufactured in Japan, hence the huge impact.

The third overall sales spot goes to General Motors, with 2.36 million deliveries.
