EFCC boss reportedly shocked at involvement of top lawyers in corruption

Ibrahim Magu is said to be shocked at the involvement of some of the top lawyers that have represented the EFCC in corruption.

EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu

In a report by SaharaReporters, Magu is said to have been stunned at the names of prominent lawyers, who have been fingered in the corruption within the judiciary.

The report claimed that a source revealed that the leadership of EFCC may have opted to invite the senior lawyers following suggestions that the commission was planning to cover-up their illegal activities to preserve their working relationship.

While up to 30 senior lawyers are said to be under probe for bribing judges, the revelation still remains shocking to Magu, who has promised to see the judiciary probe to a logical end.

According to the report, the EFCC source said: “We have discovered that corruption in the judiciary is widespread. Some Senior Advocates of Nigeria who have assisted the commission in handling some of our cases in the past are involved. Some of these lawyers had assisted us with useful legal opinions on several matters. So, we are in a dilemma’."

This is coming following the invitation extended to several senior advocates and many lawyers in the country.

Already Justices Fishim and Abba-Aji, who had presented themselves in company of their lawyers, before EFCC operatives accompanied by their lawyers, have reportedly made useful information available to the agency.
