Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi entered into Portuguese folklore on Saturday night after helping FC Porto wrap up a record-breaking 2021/22 Primeira Liga campaign.

The Nigerian international was on from start to finish as FC Porto saw off Estoril by a 2-0 scoreline at the Estadio do Dragao, reaching 91 points for the season, the highest ever points tally in the history of the Portuguese top-flight.

Porto, who have already been crowned champions of the Portuguese Primeira Liga for the 30th time, ended the season with another record to their collection.

Zaidu Sanusi delivers for FC Porto again 

Playing in his 24th league game of the season, Sanusi posted up in his usual left-back position for Porto where he saw more attacking action than defensive for the champions.

The Super Eagles star had a hand in Porto's first goal of the night, firing a low cross across the post that was turned in for an own goal by Estoril defender Joaozinho.

Sanusi had an impressive 63 touches of the ball, completing 43 (93.5%) of his passes and delivering one (1) key pass.

The 26-year-old defender also recorded one (1) successful cross out of three (3) tries and one (1) successful long ball from two (2) tries in an accomplished attacking display. 

On the defensive side, Sanusi posted one (1) clearance, two (2) interceptions, and won 50% (1 of 2) of the duels he attempted in the 90 minutes he played for Porto.

FC Porto played in front of a capacity crowd at their home stadium looking to achieve a historic mark to wrap up an impressive league campaign so far. 

The Dragons were looking to add one more victory to their 28 wins so far this season and they went ahead in the 48th minute through an own goal by Joaozinho.

Substitute Fernando Andrade wrapped up the victory for Porto with an 88th-minute goal, just two minutes after coming on in place of Joao Mario. 

The Dragons now hold the record for the most points (91) accrued in a Portuguese Primeira Liga season wherein three points were awarded for a victory. 

Earlier in the season, Porto also set the record for the longest unbeaten run in the league. A total of 58 games (47 wins and 11 draws) stretching from November 8, 2020, to April 21, 2022. 

Sporting Braga ended that run with a shock 1-0 victory over Porto courtesy of a Ricardo Horta 54th-minute goal at the Braga Municipal Stadium on April 25, 2022.
