Thomas Tuchel's team however found themselves two goals behind a header by Daniel Sturridge and a penalty converted by James Milner.

Thomas Meunier pulled one back for the Paris based side before the break and they went ahead when Mbappe curled in a shot past Alisson.

The game however ended in dramatic fashion as substitute Roberto Firmino was the hero with a very late winner.

Following the result of the encounter, Twitter users did not hold back on Neymar who was criticised for a very poor performance in the biggest stage of European football.

Neymar was unable to influence the encounter for PSG like he does on a regular in the French Ligue 1 which brought about a lot of criticism after he previously also fell short at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Brazil.

Some Twitter users stated that he was over hyped while others even went as far as saying he is not among the best forwards in world football.

Reaction to Neymar's performance

"Neymar Jr is toast. For his standards his level has dropped so much since going to France.

"Imagine you playing at Anfield and you busy walking, as a teammate I wouldn’t allow that. Even Berbatov knew he had to put in a shift there."

" Played with 10 mean, football is a team game, is a waste. Why play him on the left, gives you nothing defensively. We all said scoring 50 goals in the French league won't measure how good he is."

"A timely reminder that Neymar left Barcelona because he needed to leave Messi's shadow.

Dude no longer play with desire or urgency, almost as if he is playing in MLS."

"Sometimes you wonder if is just a scam."

"Hahahaha. You people are wicked. Someone just called rich man Robinho."

"When is coming out of Trent's pocket?"

Playing in their new Jordan Brand jerseys, Neymar and Paris Saint-Germain were unable to deliver, they will return to action when they host Red Star Belgrade who drew against Napoli in their opening group fixture.
