A Karshi Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced 18-year-old Aminu Abubakar to five months imprisonment for buying a stolen Infinix Hot cell phone worth N55,000.

The convict, an apprentice and resident of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, had pleaded guilty to a charge of dishonestly buying stolen property.

He, however, begged for leniency.

The Judge, Aliyu Kagarko, sentenced him to five months imprisonment with an option of N15,000 fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that one Cyril Emehelu of Jikwoyi, Abuja, reported a case of stolen Infinix Hot phone at the Karu Police Station on Feb. 17.

He said during police investigation, it was discovered that the convict dishonestly received and purchased the stolen phone, valued at N55,000 from one Ikechukwu Ukwu at the rate of N10,000.

He said that the stolen phone was later tracked and recovered from the convict through an electronic device.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code.
