The accused, who resides at No. 22, Obalende Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.

The Magistrate, Mrs I. O. Omotosho, pronounced the sentence after listening to the facts of the case provided by the prosecutor, Insp. Ingobo Emby.

“The accused is hereby sentenced to 100 hours of community service for injuring his colleague with a bottle having pleaded guilty.” The prosecutor had earlier told the court that on April 17 at 7.30 a.m. at Obalende Motor Park, Anyanwu attacked one of his colleagues popularly known as Marico with a bottle and injured his nose. According to him, a fight broke out between them following a disagreement on whose turn to load his bus first. He said the accused assaulted Marico, and also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.

Emby noted that the offences contravened Sections 166 (d) and 411 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded for leniency and promised that he would not engage in such misconduct in the future.
