A Moroccan teenager, Khaoula, who was forced to marry the man who raped her, has been badly injured after he attacked her with a razor.
Khaoula was attacked after her husband learnt that she filed for divorce. According to the reports on Moroccan news websites, the husband gave her 50 “disfiguring cuts” on her face after swearing that nobody will marry her after him.
Khaoula is now recovering in hospital, and several organisations have pledged to help her get justice.
Khaoula was forced to marry the heartless man after he raped him. Until recently, Moroccan law allowed men to escape prosecution for rape if they agreed to marry their victim.
A judge could suggest marriage rather than jail or death sentence if a deal is agreed by families of both parties. The law was however annulled early this year after a huge wave of protests following the death of Amina Filali, 16, who swallowed rat poison and killed herself after being forced to marry a man who raped her.
