Pandemonium in Rivers community as gunmen intercept car, kidnap woman
There was pandemonium in the late hours of Monday, December 12, 2022, at road 10 junction,Akwaka phase 2, in Rumuodomaya area of Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, as some yet-to-be identified gunmen intercepted a car, and kidnapped a woman inside.
The gunmen were suspected to have trailed the vehicle from Ruby Centre road Off Airport road to Road 10, where they intercepted it.
Eyewitnesses who spoke on a condition of anonymity, said an attempt by the car driver to out maneuver the suspected kidnappers failed as the Lexus SUV plunged into a gutter.
The assailants took advantage of the situation, as they dragged the woman out of her vehicle while they started to shoot sporadically to scare people away.
The driver and residents of the area, however, took to their heels for safety in the ensuing commotion.
This incident happened barely a week after two women were abducted at a pharmacy at the Apara link road, Off NTA road in Port Harcourt Rivers State.
The kidnap victims were identified as a woman, who took her child to the pharmacy to procure drugs for her treatment, while the other person was said to be a staff of the facility.
“The woman with her child may have been trailed by the kidnappers. Immediately she came down from the car with her son, the two armed hoodlums who parked their SUV (Carton Colour), behind her car grabbed her, the Pharmacist attendant and zoomed off leaving the child behind,” a source was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Enefaa Georgewill, the State Chairman of Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, had recently raised concerns surrounding kidnapping incidents in the state, which he noted is now on the rise.
