A 29-year-old businesswoman has been arraigned before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly bathing her 14-year-old niece with boiling water.

The accused Odor Oyinyechi committed the offence on Monday, September 5, at No.139, Adetola St. Aguda, Surulere, after the victim, Esther Ariserekwu, mistakenly poured dirty water into a pot of soup stored in a freezer.

According to the Prosecutor for the case, Anthonia Osanyade, told the court, “The accused poured hot water on her 14-year-old niece, Esther Ariserekwu, who has been with her for more than a year for mistakenly pouring dirty water into her pot of soup that was stored in the freezer.”

The accused pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of assault. Osanyade said the offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Oyinyechi was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties is to be a blood relative with proof of tax payment.

The Chief Magistrate presiding over the case, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, adjourned the case to October 30.
