Man swindles girlfriend of N2m, marries another lady with it in Ondo
A 30-year-old man identified as Akeem Bello, has been dragged before Justice C.M Akinwumi of an Akure Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State, for fraud.
Bello, who was arraigned on two count charges of fraud and obtaining by false pretense, was said to have defrauded his girlfriend, Olaotan Oladapo, of the sum of N2 million.
It was gathered that after Bello and Oladapo started their romantic affair in 2018, the former, beginning from 2020, started to convert the money sent to him by the latter from overseas to his personal use.
Police prosecutor, Inspector A. Ajeniwa informed the court that Bello married another lady instead.
While alleging that Oladapo’s womb has been damaged due to series of abortions done for the defendant, the prosecutor maintained that the offences contravened Sections 383 and 421,390 (b and c) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37. Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Having heard the prosecutor’s submission on the case, the magistrate ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Custodial Centre in Ondo, as he adjourned the matter to Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, for further hearing.
Meanwhile, an ex-convict Mercy Orija, has been re-arrested for raping a 12-year-old pupil, Janet Fakeye, to death in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
Orija, who was convicted for assaulting a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator in the community last year (2021), reportedly went into hiding shortly after he committed the offence at Fehintoluwa Community Development Association in Idiya, Abeokuta-North Local Government Area of the state.
