Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has debunked beliefs that his club heavily relies on Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in their bid for domestic and continental success.

Osimhen has been out of the Napoli squad since early September due to a hamstring injury he picked up on Matchday 1 of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League season against English giants, Liverpool.

In that time, the Spalletti-led side have gone on with business as usual, racking up four consecutive victories in all competitions and topping the Serie A table.

We are not addicted to Osimhen - Spalletti

While Osimhen has been effective in front of goal for Napoli this season with two (2) goals from five matches, other players have also stepped up to the plate for the Partenopei.

Osimhen gets more time to recover

Following up on Spalletti's statement, Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport noted that Napoli's success in front of goal without Osimhen means the Serie A club can focus on treating Osimhen's injuries properly.

The news outlet explained that Napoli's medical team can now work without having to rush the Super Eagles striker back into action for want of goals.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport: "Luciano Spalletti is right when he says:" You thought we were Osimhen-addicts and instead we are not. "True, because for almost four games the Nigerian has been stopped through injury and Napoli have won all subsequent matches, putting them at the top of the rankings for points also for goals scored.

"All this means that today the technical and medical staff can work with greater serenity and without haste on the recovery of the striker who Aurelio De Laurentiis has valued over 100 million euros."

Napoli's next fixture is against Ola Aina's Torino on Saturday, October 1.
