A 20-year-old man, Yusuf Umar, and his accomplice, a 28-year-old man, Nasiru Hassam have been arrested for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and kidnapping in Gombe.
Following their arrest, Umar who hailed from Kwami Local Government Area of the state, and Hassam from Barunde Quarter, have been paraded before journalists in the state.
According to Gombe Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mary Malum, the suspects criminally conspired and robbed one Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, 72, of a sum of N200,000, kidnapped and kept him in the Dukul hills in the Kwami Local Government Area of the state.
Punch reports that after 19 days of holding him in captivity, Malum said the suspected kidnappers collected a ransom of N9 million before releasing the victim.
“Subsequently, suspects were arrested in the Keandon Liji area of the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area," the PPRO was quoted as saying.
Malum added that the suspects had confessed to the crime and will soon be charged.
