According to reports, Haughton left the dog at an animal shelter when it had developed a massive tumour on its body.

Valerie Schomburg, a Newport Beach animal control supervisor said, "Most vets that we’ve asked, and have been involved in his story, have never seen [a tumor] that big."

Henry luckily had his tumour removed after an operation which was sponsored mainly by donations from sympathizers.
