Jessica Simpson Says She 'Always' Had A Cup Filled With Alcohol Before Getting Sober In TODAY Interview
Jessica Simpson surprised fans earlier this month when she revealed in her upcoming memoir, Open Book, that shes sober after years of struggling with abuse of alcohol and stimulants. Now, Jessica is offering up even more details about her journey.
Jessica will appear on the TODAY show on Wednesday, and in a sneak peek from the interview with Hoda Kotb, she revealed how bad her relationship with alcohol had gotten.
I had started a spiral and I couldnt catch up with myself and that was with alcohol, Jessica said in the clip. Every day I would say it, Ill stop soon. Ill cut back.
Jessica also said that she didnt know it was a problem until it was.
I completely didnt recognize myself, she said. I always had a glitter cup. It was always filled to the rim with alcohol. I just realized that I had to surrender. It was time. I had to give it up and I was ready. Im not going to miss another day. Im not going to miss another Halloween. Im not going to miss another Christmas. Im going to be present.

In a book excerpt previously revealed by People, Jessica shared that she was sexually abused as a child. As a result of that, and the pressures of her career, she started self-medicating with alcohol and stimulants. I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills, she wrote in her book.
Jessica said she realized she needed help after a Halloween party at her house in late 2017. She got sober in November 2017. Giving up the alcohol was easy, she said. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb. She now undergoes therapy twice a week.
Open Book is out on February 4, and its already a No.1 new release on Amazon.
