Man shot and killed by police for pointing his finger at them
Deputies in Florence, an area just outside south LA, received a call about an armed robbery at around 4.30am.
Within seconds of their arrival, residents heard gunshots – and a man was found dead on the pavement.
Officers told local station ABC 7 that the man they killed matched the description of the robbery suspect, because he was wearing black shorts and a black hoodie.
When they pulled up, the suspect apparently quickly turned and pointed at them like he had a gun – but it was just his finger.
Lt Eddie Hernandez, from the LA County Sheriff’s Department argued that the police fired after he took pointed at them in a shooting stance.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was unarmed.
More than 990 people were shot and killed by police in 2015.
