Thief vomits stolen gold chain after he was forced to eat 48 bananas

Gopi R. Ghaware, 25, was detained by witnesses after allegedly grabbing a woman's gold chain and attempting to run off with it.

Police took Ghaware, who was beaten by the witnesses, to the nearby Rajawadi Hospital to treat his minor injuries.

After An X-ray taken revealed that Ghaware likely had the gold chain in his stomach, police presented him with 48 bananas and ordered to eat them in an attempt to recover the chain.

The tactic was successful and the chain passed through the suspect's system, police said.

Ghaware appeared before a magistrate Friday and was remanded to custody.

The chain's owner decided to keep the item in a plastic bag and took it to a local jeweler to exchange for a new piece untainted by the suspect's digestive tract, police said.
