7-yr old boy forced to marry a Dog to ward off bad omen and evil spirit
Born in a very superstitious village named Manik Bazar, in India, Mukesh Kerayi, 7 was forced to get married to the Dog by his parents and grandparents.
When the witch and his horoscopes foretold his first wife would die young, they have nothing to do but to marry off Mukesh to a dog to cheat an ominous fate. Tuko reported.
The boy’s family dressed the stray dog as a bride and organized a formal wedding ceremony, which was attened by dozens of guest villagers.
The female dog was even given a wedding gown, while many of the townspeople watched the ceremony.
According to traditions they were dancing, singing and cheering in celebration of the “newlyweds” as if it was a usual wedding.
Explaining the bizarre wedding ritual Mukesh’s grandfather, Ashok Kumar Leyangi, 43, said:“We believe the marriage will ward off any bad omen attached the boy. This is traditional practice in our tribal community and we still believe in these old customs. We feel that it is our adult responsibility to keep our children safe and happy this way.”
The family added the dog is now back on the streets and is not living at their home.
These bizarre marriages usually take place between January and February each year.
But the government in India is still trying to educate rural and tribal communities that these acts of superstition are wrong.
