Man elaborate marriage proposal flops as girlfriend walked out because diamond is too small

A boyfriend's elaborate wedding proposal flopped when he was photographed getting down on one knee to ask his girlfriend to marry him, and was turned down because the diamond on the ring was too small.

The Chinese man hired a group of dancers for an elaborate performance in a bid to woo his girlfriend into accepting his wedding proposal.

The woman was so touched that she burst into tears at the scene in Chengdu, south-west China.

However, when she saw the ring, she turned and left because the diamond was smaller than her expectation, which was at least one carat, reported People's Daily Online.

One eyewitness told local TV: "Her eyes went wide as she put her hand over her mouth, and then she turned around and walked away without saying anything."

A screenshot of a WeChat conversation allegedly between her and a friend was later leaked online and published alongside the story.

In the message, the girlfriend says: "But he agreed to buy me a diamond ring as large as one carat. Why was this one so small? Is he so careless or has he ever cared about me?"

Her friend replies: "Don't worry. Perhaps the bigger one will be waiting for you later or he hasn't prepared it for this time."

It's not clear when the incident took place but the photographs have been circulating online in China.
