The young lady claimed that the boy had approached her asking to be adopted.

Claiming to have been concerned, Souto said that she only wanted to assist the boy, who she mentioned was being abused by his mother.

She said, “I was going to take him to my house. I found him in the street in Botafogo near the traffic lights. He asked me ‘for the love of God, adopt me please”.

The woman now faces the possibility of going to prison for a period of six years if found guilty.

The boy, whose name was not disclosed has been placed under the care of the Guardianship Council.
