These two days mark Good Friday and Easter Monday. They are key events in the Christian calendar that remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and then shift into celebration on Easter Sunday, when His resurrection is believed to have happened.

Easter Monday is a relaxed addition that allows people to spend time with family, unwind, and ease into the new week.

The announcement came from the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in a statement released on Wednesday.

“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.”

Considering the recent issues happening in Nigeria, he also implored citizens to stand as one for the sake of peaceful coexistence.

To buttress his point, the Minister said,

“Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation. Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country."

Aside from church services, family gatherings, and festivities, Easter is about endurance and hope, all of which Nigerians need in abundance to navigate the economic strain and insecurity that have plagued the nation.

Tunji-Ojo also mentioned that the Federal Government remains focused on policies that can drive economic growth and shared prosperity. It’s a familiar promise.

“The goal of the government remains taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians,” he added.
