Father allegedly strangled 11-month-old baby to death, remanded in prison

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Wednesday,May 15, 2019 ordered that Abiodun Fatunmise, a 40-year-old man, accused of killing his 11-month-old baby, be remanded in prison.

The Magistrate, Olukunle Owolawi did not take the plea of the defendant on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction according to reports.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Adebayo Joseph, had been ordered by Owolawi to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Joseph told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 6, 2019 at about 8:30 a.m., at Igboya area, Ile-Ife.

He said that the defendant strangled an 11-month-old girl to death.

Adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 316, 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002, while the case was adjourned until June 13, for mention.
