Holmes' sentencing.

So here's the deal:

On June 15 2018, the disgraced Silicon Valley exec-along with her then-boyfriend and former Theranos COO, Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani-were charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and nine counts of wire fraud. They pleaded not guilty, despite the allegations that they engaged in not just a "multi-million dollar scheme to defraud investors" but also an entirely separate scheme to "defraud doctors and patients," according to the United States Department of Justice .

Her next course of action that day? Step the F down as CEO of the company she founded at 19, at which point Therano's general counsel, David Taylor, took her place, ABC7 reports. Three months later, the company officially dissolved per an email sent to shareholders, signed by Taylor, and secured by the Wall Street Journal .

Since then things have been relatively quiet on the Holmes-headlines-front-except for readers raving about the nonfiction novel Bad Blood . We do know, however, that Holmes attended Burning Man with her own man, aka fianc William "Billy" Evans, in August and adopted a dog (which she reportedly, and unsubstantially, claims is a wolf) in the fall.

That was, however, until early this year.

A January 2019 filing revealed that Justice Department officials were still going through between "16 and 17 million pages of documents," and, get this, those original indictments (you know, all 11 of them?) might not be the only charges Holmes-and potentially other Theranos peeps-might face, according to Vanity Fair . On top of that info, Vanity Fair also reports that Assistant U.S. Attorney John C. Bostic recently said in court that the "'story is bigger than what's captured in the [original] indictment.'"

Mic. Drop.

The bottom line? Odds are Holmes will face consequences, at least of some sort, but any decision as to what, when, and how will take quite a bit of time. But here's a juicy deet to hold you over until then: girlfriend faces up to 20 years in prison.
