The complainant, Kudirat Ajoke, a resident of Asalapa compound in Alore, Ilorin, told the court on Tuesday, November 8, that her husband, Baba Mutairu, beats her every time she is pregnant, Punch reports.

Ajoke said, “He beats me and forces me to travel whenever I’m pregnant; he also does not allow me to return home until I deliver.

“He is highly irresponsible and was never involved in the maintenance of the house,” she said.

She urged the court to grant her divorce from Mutairu, allowing her to begin a new life.

However, Mutairu claimed that he is still in love with his wife, objecting to her plea for a divorce. He also denied the allegations of battery and irresponsibility levelled against him by Ajoke.

Mutairu urged the court to grant him an adjournment in order for him to reach a settlement with his aggrieved wife.

Presiding over the case, AbdulQuadir Ibrahim, adjourned the case until November 30 for report of settlement.
