Burglars land in police net after breaking into 16 houses and shops
Operatives of Ekiti Police command, have arrested two serial burglars identified only as Olamide and Michael, for breaking into homes.
The burglars were said to have broken into at least 16 houses and shops in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
In a statement disclosing the arrest of the duo, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sunday Abutu said valuables belonging to 16 different complainants were found in the possession of the suspects.
The police spokesperson listed the items recovered from the suspects as -different varieties of electronic appliances, 220 pairs of male and female shoes, 275 male and female cloths, assorted wines, provisions and foodstuffs and one bag containing three hammers, one wooden saw and a chisel.
Abutu added that while Olamide’s arrest on Saturday, October 1, 2022, led to the arrest of Michael, three other suspects involved in the robberies were on the run.
“While effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover more items, the two suspects arrested will be arraigned accordingly,” Abutu added.
Meanwhile, 27 persons kidnapped from Kawa, Gwashi, Tungar Rogo and Anka towns in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, have been rescued.
The kidnap victims were rescued by the police after spending seven days in captivity.
“The rescue was sequel to the report received by the command that a group of bandits invaded the villages and abducted an unspecified number of people and took them to Gando/Bagega/ Sunke forests. Receiving the report, police deployed additional tactical operatives to reinforce DPOs of Anka/Bukkuyum and vigilantes in their rescue operation to free the abductees.
“A well coordinated search and rescue operation was carried out with the full support and partnership of the two council sole administrators of Anka and Bukkuyum. The outcome of the rescue operation was the unconditional rescue of the 27 kidnap victims,” Zamfara Police spokesperson, SP Muhammad Shehu stated.
The freed kidnap victims have now been reunited with their families.
