According to the producer who spoke to Pulseover the phone, there was an initial agreement with the distributor Mary Ephraim of OKHMA Global Limited to deal directly with the cinemas and provide a daily report on sales. The movies began showing in cinemas across the nation on the 25, however when things didn’t seem clear, as the daily reports looked faulty, she asked the distributor on the 31 of Dec 2011to stop airing the movie, who replied a week after to confirm that airing of the movie had been stopped in all the cinemas.
Blessing therefore asked for all materials and files with regards to the screening of the movie be returned to her, which according to her took a while but was complied with as confirmed on the 14 of January 2011 by Mary Ephraim the distributor in charge. It was now time for a proper assessment of sales during the screening period to ascertain profit made. This was however disrupted when, according to Blessing a fan called her to say she was watching and loving the movie, thinking her movie had been pirated she sought to know more and thus found out that Silverbird Abuja was still airing the movie. Further investigation showed that they not only Silverbird was involved, Ozone and Genesis Deluxe cinemas in states such as; Uyo and Port Harcourt. On requesting for the tapes through which the movie was been aired, they were declared missing and the cinema management referred to the distributor; Mary, for answers.
After contacting Mary Ephraim and no positive response was received, the producer Blessing Egbe therefore decided to sue all the parties involved for an undisclosed sum (Rumoured to be about N500m) over what she perceives as sharp practices and an outright infringement on the copyright of her movie Two Brides & A Baby.
Pulse put a call through to Mary Ephraim to get her side of the story, who declined making any statement, but promise an official statement soon. All efforts to reach the other parties have been unsuccessful so far but we promise to keep you updated as the story unfolds.
