Police arrests help who partnered with burglars to steal from her boss

Anna Payaro, a 28-year-old housemaid, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police for allegedly assisting some burglars to raid an apartment in Lagos.

According to Punch, the apartment, located at Goshen Estate, Lekki, in the Eti-Osa area of the state belonged to her boss.

The items taken by the burglars include cash sum of N300,000; $1,000; £500 and some other valuables worth N2.5m.

Payaro and her accomplices committed the crime on May 27, 2016, when her boss identified as Olatunde Adepeju, travelled out of the country.

Adepeju’s neighbours informed him of the occurrence, which led to an investigation and subsequent arrest of Payaro.

The suspect was arraigned by Sergeant Cyriacus, a police persecutor, at Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 5, 2016, on three counts of burglary and stealing.

The charge reads, “That you, Anna Payaro, and others now at large on May 27, 2016, at about 3pm at Goshen Estate, Lekki, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area, within the Lagos Magisterial District, did break and enter the house of one Olatunde Adepoju, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 305 (a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

“That you and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal N300,000; $1,000; £500 and property valued at about N2.5m, property of one Olatunde Adepoju,  thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 285 (10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

Payaro however pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
