Now, we are out and about, searching for ways to live amidst the strange reality and thankfully, beautiful things are still happening! It’s a ray of hope and goodness amidst the pandemic.

Here are five things that every young Nigerian should know:

  • Applications Are Still Open:

Since March 15, 2020, applications for the tenth edition have begun and Nigerian students across the nation are excited! The excitement is understandable - a scholarship would mean the stress and frustrations of paying tuition will be out of the picture.

Schooling might be tough sometimes and not everyone can afford it. So, we feel their excitement and we couldn’t be happier. P.S: Applications close on July 21, 2020.

  • For the Blind or Science & Tech Students:

The scholarships have a simple focus, providing tuition fees for successful applicants who are either blind or are studying a science or technology related course in a public tertiary institution in Nigeria.

  • It’s a N200,000 Peace of Mind:

For successful applicants, the scholarship grant is worth N200,000.00 annually till graduation as long as they maintain the required grades.

  • Over 3,000 Scholarships:

Since the scheme began 10 years ago, there have been 3,829 students who can boast that they are scholars under the scheme!

That’s a lot of money and a lot of people. Many would have received the award multiple times during their educational journey.

  • There Is More:

As it turns out, the company also organises entrepreneurship and employability workshops to boost and assist the scholars as a way of preparing them for post-graduation life. In February 2020, MTN Foundation kicked off the Youth Development Programme, YEDP, where over 50 young graduates from the schemes pitched their business plans for a chance to receive a million Naira for their business! There are more opportunities for the students as MTN scholars in school and upon graduation.

So, you can understand why students have been asking around in forums for the start date for applications for the scheme. Listening to the stories from some of the thousands of scholars will inspire you. Many have risen above their circumstances to show the world that they are capable of more beyond their limitations.
