Producers and casting directors are increasingly seeing the benefit of casting social media comedians but on the flip side, this trend might be exposing these talents' versatility.

It is almost the case with Udoka Oyeka's latest theatrical release 'The Razz Guy'. The comedy, unlike its counterparts, gambles on Nosa Afolabi aka Lasisi Elenu, offering the top Instagram comedian his very first lead role.

In the newly released comedy, the big shot comedian stars as Temi, an obnoxious lawyer with an obsession for perfect grammar. He is forced to get in touch with his human side when a crippling spell is cast on him.

A great deal of how a film pans out depends largely on its lead actor's performance and for a newbie, Afolabi puts on a relatively good show.

Its only crime might be that it lacks the flashiness that's anticipated from a celebrity's first foray into a new venture. You see, Temi shares some uncanny resemblance with some of Afolabi's notable comic personas and at several junctures, the familiarity bred contempt. But, this filter-free Lasisi is in no way near horrifying.

Bucci Franklin, on the other hand, is an actor who is guaranteed to have the audience eating off his hands despite his brief on-screen time. The actor delivers a flabbergasting performance as a ruffian plagued by the same spell as Elenu's character. Franklin will leave you yearning for more and maybe cursing 'The Razz Guy' makers for offering so little.

For its story, the Egbemawei Dimiyei Sammy scripted comedy gets an undisputed pass into the class of first-rate Nollywood comedies. Backed by an interesting premise, the family-friendly comedy is strengthened by a clear-cut plot.

Overlooking some gaudy comic scenes, 'The Razz Guy' is a fine outing for Elenu and a crowd-pleasing venture for Trino Motion Pictures.
