Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has been speaking about the rumours that she got married to her new husband, Adeoti Kazim for his wealth.

In a recent chat with MediaRoomHub, the actress and her husband spoke about their relationship, business partnership and decision to get married.

According to Aigbe, she was already a well-to-do actress before she decided to walk down the aisle with Adeoti.

"I am not poor to start with. I work very hard, and I wonder why people don’t see my hard work. I’m one of the most misunderstood people. I work so hard and hardly sleep. I have assets—my child is abroad and I pay school fees in dollars. I change naira to dollars, and I have been doing that before I got married. I don’t know how people got that notion that I married because of money," she said.

"It is not like he is poor, I’m also rich. I’m extremely comfortable to God’s glory. I married him because I love him, not because of money. I married him because he is my best friend. He gives me peace; he makes me happy. I didn’t marry him because of money, in fact, I’m working for him because we are business partners."

Aigbe said they complement each other and at such wouldn't describe herself as a gold digger.

"We complement each other, so I also brought something to the table—it’s not like I just walked into the relationship without any value. I’m not a gold-digger, I work hard for my money. All those influencing jobs you see me do, I charge huge sums of money—and my store is also the most followed on Instagram, so I make a lot of money from that too," she added.

"I have over 10 million followers on Instagram. I have been doing business for years. I am the first set of people that made so much money from influencing before it became very common and we made a lot of money. People are always judgmental; they don’t know the true picture."

Kazim said he has been friends with Aigbe for over ten years as business partners before they started dating.

Aigbe and Kazim's marriage first made the headlines in Jan 2022.

In some quarters it is believed that Aigbe ended Kazim's already existing marriage.

"My family resides in the US, and I shuttle between Nigeria and the US because my business is here in Nigeria. If people say we are separated, maybe it’s because my family is not here with me in Nigeria. So, I’m good with my first wife, we are good together," Kazim said in the interview.

"Though there were issues initially, we are good now, everything is fine and back to normal. I am a Muslim and I am entitled to more than one wife—now I have two wives. I have two beautiful women and I’m glad."

Aigbe used to be married to socialite and businessman, Lanre Gentry.

That union was marred with domestic violence and infidelity allegations. They got separated in 2017.
