The match continued to be end-to-end with Ajax's backline routinely called into action to defend swathes of attack from Utrecht as the home side sought to snap back from their winless start to the season.

Berghuis turned provider in first-half added time with Brian Brobbey doubling Ajax's advantage before both teams went in for the break. And that was how it stayed all through the second half as Ajax secured a 2-0 victory over Utrecht.

Bassey was as impressive as ever in the centre of defence. The Nigerian international was the only member of the backline who played the full ninety minutes with the other three defenders either leaving through injury or substitution.

The former Rangers star showed his dexterity on the ball, boasting 74 touches of the ball and distributing 56 accurate passes at a success rate of 90.3%. He also completed two (2) of the three (3) long balls he attempted.

Bassey recorded three (3) clearances and one (1) tackle as well as succeeding with two (2) of the five (5) duels he attempted against Utrecht.

The Nigerian international will hope to get the chance to make his home league debut at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday, September 3 when Ajax welcome SC Cambuur for their Matchday 5 fixture.
