Senate President arrives tribunal with entourage of senators

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for the continued hearing of his corruption trial.

Saraki is said to have arrived the tribunal with an entourage of at least 35 senators.

According to The Cable, Some of the legislators who served as the Senate President’s escorts are Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Andy Uba (PDP), Adamu Aliero (APC), Shehu Sani (APC), Dino Melaye (APC), Tayo Alasoadura (APC), Kabiru Gaya (APC) and Uche Ekwunife (PDP).

Earlier reports had it that the senators had received a text messageurging them to accompany Saraki to the tribunal today and promising them free transportation.

Saraki attracted mass outrage on October 21 when he arrived the CCT with 81 senators accompanying him.

The CCT however adjourned the case till today to allow the Court of Appeal make its ruling on the matter after Saraki approached the court to challenge the tribunal's jurisdiction to try him.

The Appeal Court subsequently ruled in favour of the tribunalhence the Senate President’s trial is expected to continue.

Meanwhile, Saraki has also approached the Supreme Court to halt the trial.

The CCB is accusing the Senate President of anticipatory declaration of assets and failure to declare assets acquired while he was governor of Kwara State among others.
