Because of the sailors and officers kidnapped, the ship has remained unnavigable.
According to the Polish Foreign Minister, "the rest of the crew, 11 people, are still on the ship and they are safe... The ship suffered some damage".
According to Chief Michael Uwaka, a maritime expert and CEO of Melka Africa Limited, the militants are in it for business.
"These pirates are not out to kill anyone. They just want money. Poland and Nigeria don't have any diplomatic problems so they are purely after money," he said.
The ship was anchored around 30 nautical miles (56 km) off the Nigerian coast, and the operator was arranging for a new crew to take it back to port, Reuters reports.
