American woman’s abductors demand N60M ransom

Reverend Sortor, who works with the Free Methodist Church, was abducted from Hope Academy in Emiworo Village, Kogi State on Monday, February 23.

The abductors of US citizen, Phyllis Sortor have reportedly demanded a sum of N60 million as ransom for her release.

Reverend Sortor, who works with the Free Methodist Church, was abducted from Hope Academy in Emiworo Village, Kogi State on Monday, February 23.

Her kidnappers made their demands known to a friend of the victim, Police Commissioner, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi told NBC News.

Ogunjemilusi also said that he believed Sortor was the main target of the raid because no one else was abducted or hurt.

"We will do all within the available resources to ensure the safe rescue of the victim," he said.

Sortor has been working as a missionary in Nigeria for the past 10 years and also served in Mozambique and Rwanda along with her late husband Jim, who died in Lokoja, Kogi State on October 9, 2008.
