Ogun state govt. denies reports of disease outbreak

There were reports earlier, that 19 persons who reportedly showed symptoms of Lassa fever were placed under observation in Ogun State.

 

The government of Ogun state have denied reports of Lassa Fever outbreak earlier reported in the media.

The Commissioner for Health, Mr Babatunde Ipaye said this while addressing newsmen on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

According to Channels Television, the commissioner said the two children who were suspected to have the Lassa fever disease were let go, after their medical tests came out negative.

Ipaye also said emergency epidemic preparedness centres have been setup in the case of an outbreak.

He also said one of the centres is Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu.

The Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Lagos State Chapter, said that it had destroyed no fewer than 4,400 rats at six major markets in the state.

The Akwa bom state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, also confirmed the death of a 53 year old woman who tested positive to Lassa Fever.
