LUTH discharges 25-year-old patient in Lagos

The management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba on Friday, March 18, 2016 stated that the first Lassa fever patient in Lagos have been discharged.

The 25-year-old student was diagnosed in January.

According to the statement, an adequate system to manage the patient was put in palce, this includes an isolation centre with drugs, medical team (nurses, virologists and medical microbiologists)

“LUTH  is one of the first hospitals in the South West that has successfully admitted, managed and discharged a Lassa fever patient, in this current outbreak.

“We mobilised a team of specialists including nurses, virologists and medical microbiologists and the patient was managed, in an Isolation Centre with other drugs and adequate infection control measures put in place.  These included contact tracing and monitoring.

“It is gladdening to note that the patient has fully recovered and has been discharged having tested negative for Lassa virus.”

On the other hand, Babatunde IpayeCommissioner for health, Ogun stateduring a visit to the , Ogun State on Saturday said that the number of primary contact the first lassa fever state in Ogun has increased from 60 persons to 110.

The first victim, 28-year-old lady is said to have travelled to Ebonyi for a burial ceremony, on getting back to Ogun state she stated showing symptoms of Lassa fever.
