Cleric seeks sensitization in churches, mosques

Kaduna-based Pastor, Yohanna Buru, has called on the Federal Government to use Veterinary Doctors to sensitize citizens at places of worship concerning lassa fever.

Kaduna-based Pastor, Yohanna Buru, has called on the Federal Government to use Veterinary Doctors to sensitize citizens at places of worship concerning lassa fever.

Buru said lassa fever, Ebola, Rabies, and Avian Influenza, which are diseases transmitted from Animals-to-Humans need serious attention. Buru, who is also the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical Intercessory Fellowship Ministry, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, said in a statement that with the increasing threat and spread of lassa fever in the country, there is the need for government to use mosques and churches to sensitize the citizens on dangers of zoonosis diseases, that surround Human environment.

“There are over 250 zoonotic organisms, with only about 40 being transmitted from dogs and cats. The rest of the zoonotic organisms are transmitted from birds, reptiles, farm animals, wildlife, and other mammals.

"The good news is that a majority of the zoonotic diseases can be prevented by following basic hygiene guidelines, as well as following routine veterinary care guidelines for your pets and that is why we want the Federal Government to take this campaign to our places of worship," Buru added.
