3 injured as terrorists ambush immigration officials in Borno

The officials were said to be on assignment for the United Nations (UN) when their convoy was attacked along Maiduguri - Dikwa road.

An unspecified number of civilians and insurgents were killed in the attack, according to Daily Trust.

“After Our officials have completed two weeks exercises assigned by United Nations to register thousands of Nigeria returnees from  neighbouring countries to Gamboru border town, on their way to Maiduguri they came under heavy attack from insurgents, our personnel exchanged gun fire with them, killed some Boko Haram militants and  civilians lost their lives,” an Immigration source said.

“I cannot ascertain the number of civilian casualties but there was none on our side except three personnel that suffered gun wounds,” the source added.

The attack is yet to be confirmed by relevant military authorities.
