President appoints two Supreme Court justices

The newly-appointed judges will be sworn in on Monday, November 7, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mahmud Mohammed.

The  National Judicial Council (NJC) had earlier recommended the two candidates to the President.

Acting director of information for the NJC, Soji Oye, made this known in a statement issued on Friday, November 4.

Oye said the new judges will be sworn in on Monday, November 7, by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mahmud Mohammed.

"The two honourable justices will be sworn-in by the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed, GCON, on Monday 7th November 2016 at 2.00 pm in the Supreme Court of Nigeria," the statement said.

Mohammed will be retiring on November 10, 2016.
