This is after the Kogi state election petition tribunal on June 6, 2016, dismissed an application filed by James Faleke, the running mate to former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Abubakar Audu, seeking to unseat Bello.

The tribunal also dismissed  an application filed by former Governor, Idris Wada, challenging Governor Bello's election as Governor on June 7, 2016.

According to the Kogi Governor, the decision of the state governorship election petition tribunal affirming his election, is a victory for democracy and the people of the state.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 summoned Bello to appear before it over allegations that he refused to adhere to resolutions of the National Assembly and a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

This is following reports that the five man Kogi state House of Assembly approved the state's 2016 budget and also cleared commissioners for appointment to the executive council.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Friday, June 3, 2016, granted financial autonomy to the state legislature and judiciary with a pledge not to dabble into their affairs.
