Xabi Alonso could finally be making a return to Liverpool, as his agent has confirmed that the club has already made contact regarding the possibility of him replacing Arne Slot.
Less than 12 months after guiding Liverpool to a Premier League title, Slot is facing pressure over his future as manager. Under his leadership, the Reds have lost 10 league matches this season, a first since the 2015-16 campaign.
In light of a disappointing season, reports frequently suggest that Slot could be sacked at the end of the period, with Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso emerging as the strong favorite to succeed him in the dugout.
Alonso is currently unattached, having departed his coaching role at Real Madrid in January after less than eight months.
Now, it appears developments are more advanced, as German outlet "Bild" reports that Alonso's agent, Liverpool, and his client remain in contact ahead of a potential agreement.
However, the same report adds that while Alonso would be keen on the move, it would only happen on his own terms. The coach desires increased influence over squad planning, aiming to avoid a situation similar to his time at Real, where he reportedly felt his wishes were disregarded even before his contract was signed.
