The disciplinary regulations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 aim to uphold the rules, ensure competitive fairness, and protect the tournament's image. These standards apply to players, coaches, technical staff, officials, and all other national team personnel. Sanctions can be imposed for conduct both on and off the field related to the competition.

Yellow cards remain the primary disciplinary mechanism during matches. A player accumulating two yellow cards in different games will automatically be suspended for the subsequent fixture. For the 2026 World Cup, FIFA maintains a card amnesty system to prevent key athletes from missing crucial stages due to accumulated warnings, clearing accumulated yellow cards at specific points in the competition.

A red card results in immediate expulsion and typically an automatic suspension. Infractions such as aggression, violent conduct, insults, offensive gestures, or serious fouls can lead to heavier penalties as decided by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

FIFA also penalizes unsporting behavior, including excessive protests, disrespect towards referees, simulation, intentional time-wasting, and actions that disrupt the normal flow of the match. Coaches and bench personnel can also face sanctions for inappropriate conduct.

One of the most scrutinized areas is the fight against discrimination. Racist, xenophobic acts, or any offensive behavior can result in sanctions for players, teams, or federations, including fines and suspensions.

This system seeks to ensure that the World Cup proceeds with respect, safety, and equality among all national teams, maintaining discipline as an essential element of the competition.
