On the anniversary of arguably the greatest victory in Bulgarian football history – the 2-1 triumph over reigning champions Germany in the 1994 World Cup quarter-finals in the USA – Bulgarian Football Shirts has brought another valuable jersey back to Bulgaria. This is the shirt of left-back Tsanko Tsvetanov, which he exchanged with Germany's defender Thomas Berthold after the match.
On July 10, 1994, Tsanko Tsvetanov started at Giants Stadium and played the full 90 minutes. After the final whistle, which silenced millions of Germans worldwide, Tsvetanov swapped his jersey with Thomas Berthold. Much like Luis Miguel Salvador, who for years kept Nasko Sirakov's shirt from another iconic match – the Round of 16 clash against Mexico – the 1990 World Champion also preserved Tsvetanov's full-back jersey for over three decades.
Thanks to another grand gesture from the legendary German defender, Tsanko Tsvetanov's jersey has returned to Bulgaria 32 years later. With this true museum piece, Bulgarian Football Shirts continues its mission to bring back as many iconic match jerseys as possible to the country.
