Vangelis Pavlidis' impressive start to the season—both for Benfica and the Greek national team, where he has also taken on the captain's armband—has not gone unnoticed across European football, putting the Greek striker firmly back on the radar of top clubs.

However, one club is keen to move quickly, having placed the 27-year-old goalscorer at the very top of their January wishlist: Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League outfit find themselves languishing near the bottom of the table, having slipped into the relegation zone heading into the weekend, and have funds readily available to spend.

The London club are urgently seeking attacking reinforcements. According to a report by TEAMtalk, Spurs have drawn up a five-man shortlist of striker targets, with Benfica's number 14 emerging as their primary option.

The pursuit of the Greek international promises to heat up this winter. The January transfer window could bring unwanted pressure on Benfica, who view their frontman as offering far more than just goals for the manager and the board. The club even decided to reward him with a salary increase to keep him happy at the Luz until at least next summer, when they can more calmly assess lucrative bids and secure a replacement.

Despite the wage improvement, the striker's release clause remains unchanged, providing Benfica with a solid €100 million shield. Tottenham would also face severe competition and additional complications, particularly if any move is delayed until the summer.

Reports from England also suggest Aston Villa are monitoring Pavlidis, while heavyweights across the continent—including Barcelona and Atlético Madrid in Spain, alongside Juventus and AC Milan in Italy—are keeping close tabs on him. Turkish clubs, who have long held an interest in the number 14, also boast the financial power and strong transfer relations with Benfica. Pavlidis recently netted his 75th goal in Benfica colours against Celtic.
