Who will take on Barcelona's hot seat? Five names in contention, including Ataman and former Crvena Zvezda coach!
Despite reaching the Endesa League finals and taking a 1-0 lead, the Catalans once again ended the season without a trophy.
This was followed by an exodus from Blaugrana, with Xavi Pascual, initially seen as the leader of a new long-term project, being the first to depart. However, Pascual opted for Dubai, leaving Barça without a coach and facing numerous challenges ahead of the new season.
The overhaul began with a management clear-out and continued with team changes – eight players, including Jan Vesely (who retired), Tomas Satoransky, and Nico Laprovittola, left Barcelona as the club decided to rejuvenate its squad.
Nevertheless, the main question remains: who will take the Barcelona bench?
Five names are in contention, including Ataman and Sferopoulos.
Spanish media have listed five coaches as potential successors to Pascual at Blaugrana. Paolo Galbiati, who worked at Baskonia last season and won the Copa del Rey, has been a prominent option for some time.
If they opt for younger choices, Pedro Calles, coach of Alba Berlin, is also in the running. Among the more experienced candidates are Velimir Perasović, who has prior experience in Spain, and former Crvena Zvezda coach Ioannis Sferopoulos.
Finally, Ergin Ataman, currently without a club after leaving Panathinaikos, is also a contender. His arrival would certainly shake up Spanish basketball, but the likelihood of the Turk heading to Catalonia remains uncertain.
Regardless, Barcelona's new coach faces a daunting task.
