What Really Happened? Kylian Mbappé Addresses Alleged Wrong Knee Examination

French footballer Kylian Mbappé has denied reports that Real Madrid’s medical team examined the wrong knee when he suffered an injury late last year.

A football program on the French channel RMC Sport reported this week that the Spanish club initially examined his right knee in December instead of his left. Similar reports were carried by other media outlets in Spain, almost all citing RMC. Mbappé played throughout January but was then sidelined for three and a half weeks.

“The report claiming they examined the wrong knee is false. Perhaps I am indirectly responsible for this situation, because when you don’t communicate what’s happening, it opens the door for others’ interpretations,” Mbappé stated, according to the Associated Press, at a press conference before France’s friendly match against Brazil in the USA.

The Spanish club announced in late December that Mbappé had sprained his left knee. The French forward confirmed in Paris on Monday that his knee is fine. He has appeared as a substitute in Real Madrid’s last two matches, gradually returning to full fitness.

“There was a lot of frustration, a lot of anger, and then some anxiety. I reached a point where I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I didn’t handle that period very well. I wasn’t the happiest player in the world. But now I’m happy because it’s truly behind me. It’s gone,” Mbappé told French media.
