Twitter Nigeria users were at their cheeky best suggesting former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for the job of Manchester United manager after the club sacked Jose Mourinho on Tuesday, December 18. 

Manchester United announced that they have parted ways with Mourinho and that they will appoint a caretaker manager until the end of the season. 

Immediately after the announcement, Twitter users immediately started suggesting Wenger as a candidate for the job to the distress of Manchester United fans. 

Wenger is still without a job since he left Arsenal at the end of last season. 

“October 2018: Wenger : I’ll start a new job start of January 2019 December 18th: @ManUtd sack Jose Mourinho,” @EJAfc wrote on Twitter. 

“Wenger needs a job,” @MrDtAFC a popular Arsenal fan wrote. 

“If Manchester Utd had any sense, they'd bring in Wenger until the end of the season while they take time over a longer term appointment. Knows the league back to front, would instantly command the squad's respect and would have them playing football sharpish. #Mourinho,” @craigcodes said. 

“Arsene Wenger to manutdddd. Please God,” @Unwana_Etuk said.

“I won’t be surprised if Arsene Wenger gets the Man United job until the end of the season. United have courted him in the past,” @iambolar also said. 

“Hearing Arsene Wenger favorite to to get the job? Love the football gods,” @_d_asante_ said. 

Wenger was not the only available manager that got on the Twitter Nigeria trends after the sacking of Mourinho.

Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino also made it to the trend. 

More than two hours after the announcement, all 10 of the items on Twitter Nigeria trend were from the conversations about Mourinho’s sacking.
