Valverde's Awkward Moment: "I Injured Zidane's Son and Thought I'd Be Kicked Out"
Federico Valverde recently opened up about his early days at Real Madrid during an appearance on the "Terapia Picante" podcast. The Uruguayan midfielder recounted feeling incredibly awkward upon his arrival at the club and shared a memorable anecdote about accidentally injuring Zinedine Zidane's son.
"I felt immense shame, it absolutely crushed me," Valverde confessed. "I kept thinking, 'What am I even doing here?' When I got to the parking lot, I noticed my Castilla teammates all had really nice cars, while I could barely afford a decent one, despite already playing for Peñarol's first team."
"I started to wonder, 'Where have I landed?' I walked into the locker room and saw all these expensive designer clothes. I didn't want to take my clothes off, or I'd do it really quickly so no one would see me. It was a harsh reality check," Valverde explained, detailing his initial discomfort.
Valverde then elaborated on the incident involving Luca Zidane: "I've injured a few goalkeepers in my time. Once, I injured Luca Zidane's shoulder. I wanted to die; I thought they were going to kick me out because I'd injured Zidane's son. Some goalkeepers have suffered injuries from my shots, mostly shoulder dislocations. I have very thin legs, I don't know where all that power comes from."
